US site workers ensure struggling young families receive weekly food donations.
Every year, GKN ePowertrain Newton participates in the Backpack for Kids scheme through Feeding America, an organisation working to feed children from struggling families. The programme provides students with a backpack filled with food every Friday throughout the school year.
GKN ePowertrain Newton FIAT and C1 line employees challenged each other to see who could provide the most food. The competition paid off: together they donated more than 5,000 food items, enough to feed 75 children at Maiden Elementary over spring break and for the remainder of the second quarter of school.
GKN Automotive associate Benjamin Stephens commented on the programme: “We may be donating food for around 70 children, but the impact will go much further. Children often share any food in their bags with younger siblings.”
As the biggest supporter of Maiden Elementary through the Backpack for Kids scheme, GKN ePowertrain Newton is having a real impact.
